Today we were looking at colour changing milk.
Through this experiment they discovered the chemistry behind the tiny drop of dish washing liquid. The structure of the dish washing liquid weakens the chemical bonds that hold the proteins and fats in the solution (milk).
The soaps nonpolar or hydrophilic (water loving) end dissolves in water and its hydrophobic (water fearing) end attaches to a fat globule in the milk.
The molecules of fat bend, twist and roll in all directions, which the students observed.
