Camp Memoirs

It's okay Rodin, other people can do this, so can you! I assured, just as Amber and Courtney refuse to go down the wall... Great... Oh man, abseiling is nerve racking! I guess Courtney had a semi broken leg, and Amber isn't a PE person, but damn, I'm really foreseeing some fail here.

Oh shoot! It's my turn! I'm not sure anyone could tell, but I felt like I would faint that day. Click! The rope attached to my harness. No backing out now! It's really hard trying to get the footing right.. Oh no! I'm falling...

... I'm okay! I did surprisingly well considering I'd never done abseiling before, and the butt pains the harness was giving me. I felt like a frog, continuously hopping along the wall so I wouldn't fall. I did actually fall near the end but only ended up bouncing against the wall. Phew! I made it it! Who knew that abseiling would become my favourite camp activity!

Kayak Fail
I’m paddling along, sun shining in my face, thinking I’ve finally got the hang of kayaking when… plop, something drops into the water. I hope I won’t need that. I go to carry on paddling when I realise everyone is looking at me. I wonder why but then I look at my hands. Then I get it they are all looking at the dummy who dropped their paddle in the pool. Now I’m frantically trying to stare my kayak with my hands towards my paddle which is drifting off into space. Then the worst thing happens. Just as I reach my paddle, I fall out of the kayak! I’m stuck in the middle of the pool with the paddle in my hands as my kayak starts to wash away. “Yay, Olympics here I come!” Yeah I wouldn’t even win a participation award. That’s how bad I was but I’m not thinking about going to the Olympics anytime soon and definitely not for kayaking!

I am me,
I wonder what tomorrow will bring,
I hear new sounds,
I see the future,
I want to learn,

I pretend I'm not excited about tomorrow,
I feel the complete opposite,
I touch the door to the road of the unknown,
I worry I will not succeed,
I cry in a nervous breakdown,
I am me and that is reassuring,

I understand that it will be hard,
I dream of the feeling of success,
I try to work my way there,
I hope to learn many new things along the way.
