Using French in Context.

Over the last few days the Year 7's and Lachlan have been working hard to find information on tourist spots in Paris or Montpellier to design postcards. They have been using their fantastic research skills and learning to use French in context. The criteria was that they had to use words in their postcards we have been learning thus far this year.

Science Night Letter

57 Churchill Ave
Maeroa
Hamilton 3200

21st March 2014

Dear _________________.

Maeroa Intermediate School Science Alive Night – 1st April from 7.00-8.00pm

On Tuesday 1st April at 7.00pm we are having our annual Science Open night. On this night you will get to see some awesome science in action. Electronic boats, endothermic reactions, icecream, yoghurt making, volcanoes, magic balloons, lift and drag principles, static energy, sports science, cheese making, art, and use of ipads in science to name but a few! You really DON’T want to miss this extravaganza!

This year we have been working to the theme of ‘Thinking like Scientists”, so come along and see what we’ve been doing.

This will be held in our gym around the back of the school, please feel free to invite anyone who you think will be interested in this. Nana’s, Grandads, brothers, sisters, friends, and people considering our school as an option for their children in years to come.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there.

Yours faithfully,

Rodin's writing, Fun Day Friday story writing prompts....'pffft, as if!' , had to be included in the story.

"Then, after two hours of swimming in ice cold water, I swam to the shore, and didn't even shiver!" boasts Mark, my older brother. " Pfft, as if! I laugh. I then sigh in disbelief as I go to my room.  I understand in the middle of winter the water would be cold, but it's impossible to stay in freezing water for that long!

I then get out my iPad and start playing flappy bird. But you know how annoying that game is, right? I rage quit after about twenty tries, and I'm about to turn it off when Mark comes in and says this: "NZ camps: icy water challenge record! I'm  confused at first, but then I get the message. I open up Google and type NZ camps: icy water challenge record! It then comes up with a two hour long YouTube clip about a boy who's swimming in a beach. And the temperature is 1 degrees Celsius.

Afterwards, I then tell my brother he's amazing, and he says this: "Pfft, of course I am!"

We are learning to give good feedback to each other to help improve our work.

Today Krysten and Sarah work together to help improve their work. They are reviewing our first book report on  "The short and incredibly happy life of Riley".
This week we have been working on improving our summary sentences.

IntenSati ...a combination of Yoga, karate and meditation!

Today Room 4 commenced their fitness/ mindfulness and relaxation programme. Lots of puffing and sweating going on here today!

IntenSati teaches the students to notice and choose how they act and feel through positive affirmations.

Yes I can
I am meant to succeed
I am never giving up
I take responsibility
My excuses are gone
With discipline I'm free
I am here to live
I've got lots to give
When? Now
Power
Confidence
Courage
Peace
Is now unleashed
From within me
One day at a time
The choice is mine
I am love
Personified!

Something to think about, we'll be discussing this!

"If you could give one piece of advice to a large group of people, what would it be?"

"I'd tell them the same thing I'd tell one person. That if you understand failure, you won't be afraid of it anymore. Failure isn't diving on your face, or hitting rock bottom. That's just being human. You only fail when you decide to not try again. So it's entirely in your control. Once you understand failure, it's impossible to fail."

Oh the places bloopers!

Today 10 of our girls spent some time using the ipad to film parts of the Book of the term, "Oh the places you'll go".

They had lots of fun trying out angles, voice projection and managing themselves outside.

Room 4 getting all Digital on it today.

At the moment we are 'thinking like scientists' and researching our ideas around a more sustainable planet.
We have been looking at introductions, good linking paragraphs, including fact and justifying ideas, and using diagrams, lists and flow charts to add depth to our work! Watch this space for examples of the work soon.
